A traffic stop on Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a local man on several charges after he refused to cooperate with officers.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., a Columbus police officer and Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputy from CPD’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit stopped the driver of a suspicious vehicle in the 1300 block of West Tellman Road, said CPD spokesman Lt. Matt Harris.

The driver, who was identified as Ronald L. Miller, 49, of 2732 Maize Drive, exited the vehicle and began yelling at the officers. The officers attempted to detain Miller, however, he refused to cooperate. After a short scuffle, Miller was secured in handcuffs, Harris said.

The officers determined that Miller’s driver’s license was suspended and located methamphetamine in Miller’s wallet, Harris said.

Miller was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges: possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony), resisting law enforcement (Class A misdemeanor), driving while suspended with a previous conviction, (Class A misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (Class B misdemeanor).

Miller was being held in jail in lieu of $71,000 bond, jail officials said.
