COLUMBUS

Don R. Munn crossed the river after a long battle with cancer on December 13, 2020. Don was the son of Ray and Dora Maxine (Hundley) Munn and was born on September 25, 1949 in Ogilville. Don married Connie Richards on November 6, 1971 at the Ogilville United Methodist Church. The service was performed by the Rev. Leon Gardner. Don retired from Cummins in 2014 after 46 years as a Tech Adviser / Lab Manager at the Columbus Midrange Engine Plant. Don was a member/past member of the American Chemical Society, Microscopy Society of America/Indiana, and Society for Applied Spectroscopy. Don attended Columbus High School, IUPUI, and Purdue University. Harvest season was also special to Don as he loved bird dogs and bird hunting, especially with his brother-in-law Charles Richards. They were also trap shooters, deer hunters, and turkey hunters. Don was active in his church as a long-time member of the Ogilville United Methodist Church, where he had been a Sunday School teacher for 40 years, Trustee, head of the Council, and preached a few times. Don was also active in the schools as a PTA president, basketball coach, and Community Advisory Committee member for Mt. Healthy School. Don also coached baseball at Ogilville Little League, Babe Ruth, and Babe Ruth All Stars for many years. Upon retirement from Cummins, Don returned as a consultant for Process Control and Materials Analysis through 2019. One of the projects Don worked on was a project to replace paint with a transit coating. The project won several Chrysler awards and the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence and saved over 1 million dollars with many environmental improvements. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Connie (Richards) Munn; sons, Travis (Vicki) Munn, Tracy (Kristin) Munn, and Tyler Munn; grandchildren, Gavin, Andrew, Izabelle, and Charlie Munn; brothers, Dave (Sherry) Munn and Ron (Paulette) Munn; sister, Donna Dobbs; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Donations can be made to the Ogilville United Methodist Church, Sans Souci, or the donor of their choice. Don wishes a special thanks to the Columbus Regional Health Cancer staff for all of their help through the years. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ogilville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Paul Huntsman officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Due to pandemic restrictions, we ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the church and masks are required. Don will be laid to rest at the Ohio Chapel Cemetery.
