COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local woman was arrested Saturday evening after she was accused of leading CPD officers on a short vehicle pursuit and later was accused of kicking an officer in the leg.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. Saturday, CPD officers responded to the area of Ninth Street and Lafayette Avenue in regards to a fight that left a woman injured, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers observed a sport utility vehicle leaving the area and attempted to stop it. The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Samantha R. Branum, 29, of Columbus, refused to pull over, Harris said.
The officers pursued the vehicle until the 800 block of Hutchins Avenue, where it came to a stop.
When Branum was detained in handcuffs she became belligerent towards the officers and kicked a CPD officer in the leg, Harris said. Branum was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, battery on a law enforcement officer and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
