COLUMBUS, Ind. — A fire caused extensive damage to a home on Cherry Street Tuesday night.
Columbus firefighters were sent to 511 N. Cherry St., at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday and found flames showing from the rear of the home.
Firefighters believe that the fire may have originated near the garage at the rear of the residence before spreading to the home. As firefighters entered the front interior of the home, they encountered high heat and heavy conditions as they moved towards the area of the home involved in flames.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Damages to the home are estimated at $48,000. No injuries were reported at the scene.
