North boys top Cougars
BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North split a dual match with Bloomington North on Thursday, with the Bull Frog boys winning 123-63 and the Cougar girls prevailing 117-69.
The North boys won all 12 events. Daniel Utterback took the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 53.32 seconds) and 100 freestyle (50.02), and Christopher Lee captured the 50 freestyle (22.63) and 100 backstroke (53.77) to lead the way.
Other individual winners for the Bull Frogs were Carlos Fabien in the 200 individual medley (2:17.36), Kyan Jiles in the diving competition (222.45), David Fry in the 100 butterfly (59.02), Aidan McAlister in the 500 freestyle (5:21.87) and Pratt Badve in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.50. North also swept the 200 medley (1:45.44), 200 freestyle (1:36.27) and 400 freestyle (3:30.49) relays.
Adeline Rush led the Bull Frog girls with wins in the 100 butterfly (1:05.55) and 100 backstroke (1:05.61). Paige Maddox took the 500 freestyle (5:47.99) and North captured the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.42).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hauser falls to GCA
GREENWOOD — Hauser had its hands full with Class A co-No. 9 Greenwood Christian Academy in a 76-32 defeat.
The Jets fell to 6-9.
Chargers stop Cougars
GREENSBURG — South Decatur played its rival close, but came away with a 43-38 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss at North Decatur.
Loryn Pate led the Cougars (5-10, 0-4) with 14 points. Lana Bell added 10.
Trinity routs Senators
CAMPBELLSBURG — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 35-13 halftime lead and cruised from there to a 56-31 win against West Washington.
Sydney Jaynes led the Cougars (14-3) with 30 points. Kailene Cockerham added 12.
WRESTLING
Panthers topple Eagles
NASHVILLE — Jennings County won 11 of the 14 matches to post a 64-13 victory at Brown County.
Gavin Bateman (152 pounds) and Teagan Trogger (160) won by pin for the Panthers, while Braden Isbell (106), James Hatton (113), Alexis Giltner (120), Evan Sochacki (126), Jonah Matthews (132), Bryce Barnes (145), Chris Hernandez (170) and Max Brown (220) all won by forfeit. Zane Ortlieb (195) won by major decision
For the Eagles, Hunter Funkhouser (182) won by pin. Lane Mullins (285) scored a major decision, and Chris Luckey (138) won by decision.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Eagles fall to Mustangs
ELLETTSVILLE — Brown County, playing only its second game of the season and its first since Dec. 22, dropped a 70-37 Western Indiana Conference decision at Edgewood.
Carter Kelly led the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) with 11 points. Ricky Stanley added nine.
