Two arrested for OWI in separate traffic stops

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two local residents were arrested by Columbus police officers for driving while intoxicated during separate incidents during the past 24 hours.

On Wednesday at approximately 11:40 a.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a traffic crash near Lockerbie Drive and Hartford Avenue. When the officers arrived, they were informed that the one of the drivers involved in crash, who was later identified as Amy L. Spangler, 31, of Columbus had fled the scene of the crash on foot, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Spangler was located a short time later in the 1700 block of Lockerbie Drive and was taken into custody. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was remanded on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

On Thursday morning at approximately 1:10 a.m., a CPD officer on patrol near 11th Street and California Street observed a vehicle traveling erratically, Harris said. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver who was identified as Korbin L. Lopotosky, 22, of Columbus. While speaking with Lopotosky, the officer noted that Lopotosky’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred. Lopotosky was transported to the Columbus Police Department for a certified breath test and later provided a breath sample of .167%, Harris said.

Lopotosky was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated-previous conviction and operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15% or greater.
