Three seriously injured in two fatal accidents still hospitalized

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Three people seriously injured as the result of two fatal accidents on Sunday remained hospitalized in Indianapolis.

Officials at IU Health Methodist Hospital confirmed Tuesday that Katelyn Mings, 29, of Columbus; Webster Gilcrease, 28, of Columbus; and Valon Rahmani, 26, of Edinburgh were all listed in serious but stable condition.

Mings and Gilcrease suffered serious injuries Sunday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on East 25th Street near the Clifty Creek bridge. The crash claimed the life of 10-year-old Parkside Elementary fourth grader Kayydence Mings. An infant who was also in the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder was treated for minor injuries and released, investigators said.

Four hours after the first accident, Valon Rahmani was also driving a SUV when it went out of control on U.S. 31 near the Old Indianapolis Road overpass. The 2006 Buick Rainier crossed the median and was struck by an oncoming semi tractor-trailer.  The impact caused his 53-year-old father and front seat passenger, Musa Rahmani, to be ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting.

Musa Rahmani was the owner of the Edinburgh Diner, which has operated at 413 S. Eisenhower Drive since May 2017, according to Edinburgh businessman Nate Dillingham, who owns and leases the diner property.

The cause of both accidents remains under investigation.
