COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Frances L. Lawson, 98, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at her home.

Mrs. Lawson was born June 7, 1922, in Sparta, Kentucky, the loving daughter of Joseph and Lula Mae Trumbo Tolliver. On November 28, 1942, Frances married George E. Lawson Sr.; he preceded her in death July 16, 2008.

Having a passion and special love for children, Mrs. Lawson was a foster parent for Children’s INC for many years and she had worked as an in-home caretaker.

Mrs. Lawson was a longtime member of Park Ridge Baptist Church in Sparta, Kentucky and she faithfully attended God’s House Baptist Church in Columbus. She enjoyed making candles and she loved her flowers and watching the birds.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Jerry (Margaret) Lawson of Columbus, Ricky Lawson of Columbus and George (Twanette) Lawson of Columbus; daughters, Helen Ward of Columbus, Laura Edmonds of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Daisy McDonald of Columbus and Cassandra (Bryan) Nicholson of Columbus; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a sister, Edna Booker of North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lula Mae Tolliver; husband, George; sons, Arthur “Eddie”, Donald and Gary Lawson; grandchildren, Chauncey Lawson, Donald Edmonds and Courtney and Brittany McDonald; great-grandson, Isiah Jemerson; and siblings, Arthur Tolliver, Mable Anderson, Joseph Tolliver Jr., Maggie Washington, Evelyn Sanders, Laura Stallworth and June Long.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. The funeral service will be private with the Reverends Ray Ware, Allen Young and Steven Millon officiating.

Due to pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 50 people in our funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required inside the funeral home.

Mrs. Lawson will be laid to rest next to her husband and son in Section 87 at Garland Brook Cemetery.
