Elizabeth “Libby” Yager Hamilton, 92, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Saturday, February 6, 2021.

Libby was born on July 24, 1928 at Bedford, Kentucky to Edith M. Bray Yager and Luther Camden Yager. Sylvia and Alton were her beloved siblings. Libby married James “Jim / JD” Deward Hamilton on November 14, 1953 in Bedford, Kentucky, he survives. Other survivors are daughters, Connie Suverkrup, her husband, Craig and Jamie Clack, her husband, Jim; her beloved grandchildren, Chad Suverkrup, wife, Jennifer, Courtney Suverkrup and Noah Clack; and her precious, precious great-grandchildren, Claire and Rose Suverkrup. She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.

Libby graduated from Trimble County High School in 1946 and from Bryant/Stratton Business College in Louisville, Kentucky in 1952 and she attended Louisville Bible College. Later in life, she continued to take classes in architecture at IUPUC. She also continued her education by taking classes offered by Indiana University and Hanover College’s Crowe Academy

She and Jim lived in Madison, Indiana and spent many happy years along the beautiful Ohio River before moving to Columbus, Indiana.

A 50-year member of Psi Iota Xi, Epsilon Chapter, philanthropic sorority, she spent many hours at the Psi Iota Xi Thrift Shop and served on the board for many years as Secretary.

Elizabeth was an active member of Joseph Hart Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and received her 30-year award in 2014 and served as Recording Secretary. She was a member of the Bluegrass Chapter, Daughter of the American Colonists in Shelbyville, Kentucky where she served as Vice Regent and held other offices. She attended DAR meetings as long as she was able to in her beloved state of Kentucky. When not attending in Kentucky, she attended the local Columbus DAR Chapter.

She was a member of the Columbus Pro Musica Board of Directors during its change to the Columbus Philharmonic. Music was always an important part of Libby’s life.

Libby was particularly interested in Biblical History, studies of Civil War and Civil War Round Table. She was an avid reader and enjoyed trips to the West with several of her close friends. Her favorite trip was to the Holy Land. Libby was also an avid University of Kentucky sports fan. Libby was appointed a Kentucky Colonel in 1985 by Governor Martha Layne Collins.

At her much beloved First Christian Church, she was active in VBS, FCC Wedding Reception Committee, 55 Plus Gang, a 40-year Chancel Choir member, Music Coordinator Librarian, a founding member of Caring Ministries and all the different Sunday School classes that she evolved into and out of through the years. She loved to decorate the church for Christmas which she did beautifully for many years. She especially enjoyed Tuesday’s Bible Study Group and she enjoyed going to church several times a week just taking care for plants and work in the music room.

Libby was laid to rest in the Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky Monday, February 8, 2021. There will be a Celebration of Life service for Libby at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to First Christian Church or to a charity of your choice.
