When Hauser meets Southwestern (Shelby) Wednesday night in the opening round of the Southwestern Sectional, the Jets will have had seven days to try to turn things around from a 10-point loss to the Spartans.

Southwestern won 48-38 at Hauser on Wednesday, when the Jets were in the middle of three games in three days to close the boys basketball regular season. The rematch will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

“We want to try to make some adjustments going into there, and it’s going to take a great effort, but I think our kids are ready for that opportunity,” Hauser coach Brent Keck said. “We’re hopping on the bus to go compete and hopefully have a long week at the tournament.”

Junior Bryce Bates leads the Jets (8-14) with 14.0 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Junior Koby Johnson adds 8.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Ethan Wendling led the Spartans (10-10) with 17 points in Wednesday’s game at Hauser. Christian DeArmitt added 11.

“I think they’re very well coached,” Keck said. “They’re a senior-laden team. They did a great job of running their entries and actions. Hopefully, we can be a little bit more efficient on the offensive end. They have a lot of weapons, and we have to do a great job of stretching out and being ready for them.”

The Hauser-Southwestern winner will play the winner of Wednesday’s Waldron-Rising Sun game in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday. The sectional final will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
