A Freetown man who had an active warrant for his arrest was taken into custody after a foot chase with CPD officers on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:25 p.m., Columbus police officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Indiana Court in regards to a report of a suspicious person wearing dark clothing, said Lt Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they observed a man, later identified as Donovan A. Martin, 23, of Freetown, who began running after officers attempted to make contact with him. Martin jumped a couple of residential fences and was located hiding under a vehicle in the 100 block of Woodlane Drive where he was placed under arrest, Harris said.

Officers confirmed a local warrant for Martin’s arrest and also located drug paraphernalia while searching his clothing. Martin was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of the warrant, resisting law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said.

Martin was being held in jail in lieu of $17,500 bond, jail officials said.
