Cummins donates bikes to Advocates for Children

Cummins Fuel Systems recently collaborated with the United Way of Bartholomew County to donate 30 bicycle and 32 bicycle helmets to Advocates for Children, a local agency supporting abused and neglected children and youth.

James Bitner, manufacturing engineer and maintenance leader, and his team worked together to purchase bicycle kits, assemble them, and attach a personalized note to each bicycle

"Advocates for Children is grateful for the support from our community leaders at Cummins Fuel Systems and the United Way of Bartholomew County," said Abigail Jones, the organization’s director of development. "Children’s ability to engage in safe, healthy outdoor activities like bike riding is important in their growth and we are delighted to be able to provide that opportunity to so many children in our community with their support the organization’s director of development. The pandemic has had a significant effect on our organization and the children in our community and this gift is sure to be a shining light to them."

When asked about her participation in the project, Cynthia Rose said, "Bicycles became a very scarce commodity at a certain point during the pandemic in 2020. When we learned of the opportunity to provide bicycles to a local organization, we knew this is what we wanted to do.

"It was even more exciting when I learned that the recipients of the bicycles would be Advocates for Children. Having been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer) from 2006-2016, I knew what such a gift would mean to those boys and girls whose lives have been turned upside down. Cummins Fuel Systems is proud to be able to help put a smile on the faces of 30 children."
