SMALL TOWN CITY CONCERT, 7:30 p.m., April 16, First United Methodist Church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. First United Methodist Church will host an in-person and virtual Fridays@First concert featuring the duo Small Town City with two members of the a cappella group Straight No Chaser, Ryan Alhwardt and Mike Luginbill. SIBELIUS & RACH 2, 7:30 p.m., April 17, Columbus North High School Auditorium, 1400 25th St., Columbus. The concert opens with Mozart’s sparkling wedding overture followed by Sibelius’s Finnish Independence Symphony. Sibelius 2 is filled with longings for freedom, and his expression of the triumph of liberty clearly reflects Beethoven’s 9th. Displaying tenderness, lyricism, power, and a charming charisma, Di Wu performs Rach 2, considered by many to be the world’s favorite piano concerto.
WHO’S AFRAID OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC? AN AURALLY-FRIENDLY DEMO-RECITAL, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., April 18, Zoom or Facebook Live. Join Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Josh Aerie in a look behind the scenes at performing, interpreting, and appreciating new music. Aerie will give a glimpse into the process of bringing a brand new piece to life, including working with a composer, exploring the composition’s musical “voice” and the importance of audience engagement. Featuring works for solo cello representing a variety of contemporary styles. This event will be livestreamed on our page through Facebook Live or available through Zoom. ELEVATE — Taking Your Relationship to the Next Level is an interactive couple’s education program that blends practical skills with an understanding of the heart-brain-behavior connection to enhance a healthy relationship. Together, as a couple, you will initiate discussions, learn and practice several skills to maintain a healthy and stable relationship. No matter where you are in your relationship, the skills you’ll learn will have a lifelong impact. Cost is $10 per person to cover book fees. GET WALKIN, online, April 5 to May 31. Spring will soon be here and that means nicer weather with more time spent outdoors. Why not take this opportunity to start walking and moving more? Need some motivation to get started but don’t have time to attend a class? Get WalkIN’ is an email based walking program being offered through Purdue Extension in Bartholomew County. Participants can sign-up, walk on their own and receive emailed support and information. Participants will be asked to complete two short online surveys. BLACKWELL PARK STORYWALK, April 1 to 30. The Bartholomew County Public Library, together with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, are excited to bring “Unstoppable,” by Adam Rex and illustrated by Laura Park. The StoryWalk is located along the People Trail near the Pollinator Park.
DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS STORYWALK, April 1 to 30. This April, you can read “Saturday,” by Oge Mora, in the shop windows of Downtown Columbus. The story begins in the window of Hoosier Sporting Goods at 611 Washington Street. Follow the windows south to Third Street, and then head north to Viewpoint books. Brought to you by the Bartholomew County Public Library and downtown merchants.

The current special exhibit, courtesy of the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives and Ball State University, explores Columbus’ seven national historic landmarks.
YELLOW TRAIL MUSEUM/VISITOR CENTER, west side of Hope Town Square at 644 Main St., Hope. The board recently announced the museum anticipates opening the first full week of May 2021. This also includes the “Sunday Socials,” which typically meet the first Sunday of each month.
