COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Joeneta Barton, 89, of Columbus, passed away Sunday March 28, 2021 at her home. She was born August 28, 1931 in Manilla, Indiana to the late Ulysses S. Grant Turner and Clara V. Turner.

Joeneta was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Easter Star, Columbus Chapter #339 and had been a girl scout leader for many years. She was a cook for Bartholomew County Schools. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was awarded the Grand Champion Ribbon for her yeast roll recipe at the Bartholomew County Fair.

Eastern Star Memorial Rites will be held at Noon on Friday April 2, 2021 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery in the Sermon on the Mount section. Due to the State of Indiana mandate, visitors are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. We encourage you to share your support with the family, being cognizant that others wish to do the same.

Joeneta is survived by her children, Deborah Minniefield of Indianapolis, Barbara Heath of Yakima, Washington, Nita (Randy) Palmer of Huntsville, Alabama and Ronn Barton of Columbus; brother, Donald (Gretchen) Turner of Shelbyville; grandchildren, MaCa Minniefield, Myra Minniefield, McKinley Minniefield, Jeremy Vulgamore, Aaron Vulgamore and Amanda Vulgamore; great grandchildren, Joshua Clendenen, Maleke McNeil, Makai McNeil, Kayla Vulgamore, Maddison Vulgamore, Lucas Vulgamore, Serenity Vulgamore, Jordyn Vulgamore, Gage Vulgamore, Sage Vulgamore, Rylee Mercer, Mazlo Minniefield and Margot Minniefield. Joeneta was preceded in in death by her parents, her husband Jack; her brothers, Rod, Frank, Grant and Robert Turner and a sister, Anna Lucille Howard.
