Carmel, Silver Creek, Blackhawk, Barr-Reeve claim state titles

Carmel controlled the overtime Saturday night to pull out a 51-46 victory against Lawrence North in the Class 4A state championship game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Brian Waddell led No. 2 Carmel (26-2) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Whack added 11 points.

C.J. Gunn led No. 3 Lawrence North (28-3) with 18 points.

Class 3A

No. 2 Silver Creek edged No. 9 Leo 50-49 to defend the state title it won in 2019.

Kooper Jacobi recorded 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Trey Kaufman-Renn added 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dragons (25-4). Blake Davison led the Lions (24-5) with 20 points.

Class 2A

No. 2 Fort Wayne Blackhawk, which won the Class A title in 2019, added a 2A crown with a 55-40 win against No. 5 Parke Heritage.

Caleb Furst led the Braves (28-3) with 28 points and a 2A title-game record six blocks, while Zane Burke and Jacob Boyer each added 14 points. Connor Davis led the Wolves (27-4) with 18 points.

Class A

No. 1 Barr-Reeve won its second state title with a 64-48 win over No. 3 Kouts.

Curt Hopf led the Vikings (29-2) with 23 points and Class A title-game record 19 rebounds, while Hagen Knepp added 16 points and 10 rebounds, Devin Graber scored 13 points and Brycen Graber dished out a state title-game record 13 assists. Twins Cole (21) and Cale (15) Wireman led the Mustangs (29-3).
