JCHS prom planned for April 24

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County High School students missed attending both prom and graduation last year, but this year will be different.

The Jennings County High School junior class will present Prom 2021: Dripping in Diamonds. It will be a prom that will be held both in-person and locally.

The prom will take place at the Willow Lake Event Center from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at the barn on April 24.

Students will have the opportunity to vote on prom court nominations this month. Coronation (the crowning of the king and queen) will take place at 9 p.m.

Prom-goers will not only get to experience prom but the after-prom. It will have entertainment such as Giant Jenga, Giant Connect 4, KanJam, ladder golf, corn hole, and an outdoor movie. Inside of the event center there will be various card games, puzzles, and much more.

After-prom, like prom, will take place from 7 to 11:30 p.m. in the front building at the event center.

Tickets for this year’s event are $50 for a couple’s ticket and $30 for a single ticket. Included in that ticket is a $10 meal voucher to be used at the food truck.

There will also be an ice cream sundae bar, and pre-packaged snacks will be available throughout both venues.

Ticket sales are from April 6-20.

“I’m glad that we are having it, even if it is a little different from previous events,” senior Charles Moberly said. “I’m glad to graduate knowing we can attend at least one prom.”

The JCHS jnior class is also looking for donations to help offset the cost of prom. Due to COVID-19 and CDC guidelines, fundraising efforts were limited.

Donations can be sent to the high school, 800 W. Walnut Street, North Vernon, 47265, with attention to the junior class.
