North blanks Brebeuf

INDIANAPOLIS — Kyler McIntosh threw a two-hit shutout and went 2 for 2 with two RBIs Friday night to lead Class 4A No. 2 Columbus North to a 7-0 win at 3A No. 4 Brebeuf Jesuit.

Blake Huffman homered for the Bull Dogs (6-0-1). Austin Bode had a double.

East falls to Floyd

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East was tied with Floyd Central 1-1 after 2 1/2 innings Friday, but the Highlanders scored four times in the bottom of the third and went on to post a 7-4 win.

Ben Major went 2 for 2 with two doubles for the Olympians (2-3-1).

Spartans nip Cougars

SHELBYVILLE — Devin Pate threw seven shutout innings, but Southwestern (Shelby) pushed across a run in the eighth to claim a 1-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Zaydun Sharp had the lone hit for the Cougars (1-4, 0-2).

Trinity tops Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Trinity Lutheran posted a 10-3 win against Crothersville in a game that was called after five innings.

The Cougars improved to 4-1.

Devils nip Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh Thursday to pull out a 3-2 win against Jennings County.

Logan McIntosh went 3 for 3 for the Panthers (1-1).

SOFTBALL

Jets run-rule Lancers

EDINBURGH — Class A No. 7 Hauser trailed Edinburgh 3-2 after the first inning, but scored 15 runs times over the next five innings to post a 17-7 MHC victory.

Kylie Mack and Dani Steward each went 4 for 5 with a double, Hannah Johnson and Hannah Taylor each went 3 for 4 with a triple and Morgan Bottoms went 3 for 4 with a double for the Jets (5-1, 1-0). Paige McDaniel earned the win in the circle.

Pitcher MacKenzie Bieker clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning for the Lancers (2-3, 0-1).

Panthers topple Cougars

KNIGHTSTOWN — South Decatur led 8-3 after 2 1/2 innings, but Knightstown scored nine times in the bottom of the third and went on to post a 16-10 victory.

Cassidy Haley went 4 for 4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs for the Cougars (1-2). Brook Somers went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple, and Loryn Pate went 2 for 4.

TRACK AND FIELD

Eagles finish third

MARTINSVILLE — Brown County’s boys and girls both finished third in a tri-meet Thursday at Martinsville.

The host Artesians won the boys meet with 73 points, and Edgewood edged the Eagles 49-45 for second. Edgewood took the girls meet with 74 points to 68 for Martinsville and 31 for Brown County.

Christy Sebastian won the girls 100 meters (13.2 seconds) and 300 hurdles (10.9). Natalie Suding took the pole vault (8-6).

Winners for the Eagle boys were Ricky Stanley in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches), Cameron Fox in the 400 (55.9) and Chase Austin in the 3,200 (10:41). Brown County also took the 4×800 (9:08) and 4×400 (3:46.4) relays.

Cougars sweep Jackets

GREENSBURG — South Decatur swept a dual meet with Morristown Thursday, winning the boys meet 76-47 and the girls meet 65-58.

Ian Frensemeier led the Cougar boys with wins in the shot put (42-6) and discus (113-6). Other winners were Kelby Shook in the high jump (5-6), Campbell Johannigman in the 300 hurdles (49.5), Isaac Gasper in the 800 (2:29) and Trevor Newby in the 3,200 (12:09). South Decatur also took the 4×800 (10:11) and 4×100 (49.3) relays.

For the girls, Lana Bell won the high jump (4-10) and discus (93-8), and Brayley Sundal took the long jump (14-2) and 200 (29.6). Other winners were Alli Nobbe in the shot (26-11, Zoe Meer in the 100 (13.6), Bridget Nobbe in the 3,200 (15:26) and the Cougars’ 4×400 relay team (5:03.2).
