It’s about time the crazy cat lady got a little respect.
From now through April 15, the Bartholomew County Humane Society will be hosting an online fundraiser to raise money to construct an open housing cat room.
Cat supplies and food will also be purchased with funds raised during what is being billed as the “Crazy Cat Lady Day” fundraiser.
In order to encourage local residents to visit the Bartholomew County Humane Society’s Facebook page, the organization is asking supporters to post photos of themselves having a good time with one or more of their cats. The photos that receive the most shares and likes will be featured on the humane society’s new website.
To confirm you want to participate in the competition, every entry should include the phrase #YouLetTheCatsOut, according to a Humane Society news release.
But while judging the photos, take a moment to also check out the “donate” button on the Facebook top post. It will allow you to make a contribution to the Crazy Cat Lady Day fundraiser through either Paypal or a major credit or debit card.
As of April 8, a total of 18 donors had contributed $1,010 to help reach the $4,000 goal.
The open housing cat room will provide the felines with the opportunity to climb and run freely in a room designed just for their safety and enjoyment. According to Humane Society officials, this type of environment encourages more exercise, smooths a cat’s transition to adopted life and allows for more natural cat behavior.
While photos will not be posted after April 15, donations will be accepted through April 19. For more information, contact shelter director Kirsten VantWoud by email at [email protected], or by calling 812-372-6063.
