BASEBALL

North sweeps Gull Lake

WESTFIELD — Class 4A No. 2 Columbus North put together a dominating performance Saturday in sweeping a doubleheader from Gull Lake from Richland, Michigan, at Westfield’s Grand Park.

The Bull Dogs cruised to a 14-1, five-inning win in the opener. North was leading 12-0 with one out in the bottom of the second in the second game when Gull Lake decided to forfeit.

Jacob Bailey went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and picked up the win in relief in the first game. Reese Harmon and Gage Bayne each went 2 for 2, and Austin Bode had a home run and two RBIs. Harmon, Bailey and Bayne combined on a five-hitter.

In the second game, the Bull Dogs (8-0-1) scored nine times in the first inning and had added three more in the second when the game was called. Kyler McIntosh went 2 for 2 with a double and four RBIs. Zach Wager allowed only one hit in two shutout innings.

Bull Dogs take third

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus North finished third in the Floyd Central Invitational at Valley View.

No. 3 Center Grove won with a 306. No. 6 North and No. 11 Bloomington South both shot 317, with the Panthers taking second because of a better fifth score. No. 7 Floyd Central had a 324, and No. 9 Evansville North finished with a 328.

Luke VanDeventer led the Bull Dogs with a 76. Jacob Niedbalski carded a 77, Luke Schneider added a 78, Willy Davis shot 86 and Tyler Wilks had a 90.

North’s Jack Schiavello played as an individual and finished with an 89.

Columbus East had a 389 team total. Kody Reynolds led the Olympians with an 81, while Cole Schaefer carded a 93, Pierce Arnholt added a 101, Spencer Erfmeier shot 114 and J.T. Kuhlman had a 116.

SOFTBALL

East falls to Pirates

Columbus East outhit Greensburg 12-6, but the Pirates scored seven times in the fourth inning and claimed an 11-6 victory.

Kenzie Foster went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Olympians (2-5). Addy Ross and Kerigan Greathouse each went 2 for 3, and Kailey Cole went 2 for 4.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was canceled because of rain.

Arabians top Panthers

PENDLETON — Jennings County scored seven times in the top of the first, but Pendleton Heights rallied for a 22-15 victory in the opening game of Pendleton’s Horseshoe Classic.

Kenzie Matern went 3 for 5 with a double, Abby McDonald and Tori Lee each went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Shelby Wilson went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs and Delaynee McCreary went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Panthers (2-5). Lexi Doup went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Jennings was scheduled to play Decatur Central in its second game of the day, but that was rained out.
