NORTH VERNON — North Vernon police arrested a DUI suspect Sunday who also had a 10-year-old child in her vehicle.
The incident happened at 12:22 a.m. Sunday when Sgt. Isaac Barkes was assisting a sheriff’s deputy with a separate DUI investigation at Walmart in North Vernon, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.
A vehicle pulled up and Barkes make contact with the driver, who had signs of impairment, Richmond said.
Barkes then conducted a DUI investigation on Michaela A. Rigdon, 36, North Vernon, who had a 10-year-old in the vehicle with her, Richmond said. Officers determined Rigdon’s blood alcohol level was .22%, more than two and a half times over the legal limit, he said.
A family member was contacted to take custody of the child.
Rigdon was charges with operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level about .15%, investigators said.
