North wins invitational
NORTH VERNON — Luke Schneider fired a 2-under-par 69 and won medalist honors on the second hole of playoff Saturday to lead sixth-ranked Columbus North to the title at the 11-team Jennings County Invitational.
The Bull Dogs finished with a 299 team total at St. Anne’s. Greensburg took second with a 321, and Madison was third with a 327.
North’s Luke VanDeventer tied for fourth with a 76, and Jacob Niedbalski and Tyler Wilks tied for sixth at 77. Willy Davis added an 82, and Jack Schiavello had an 87.
Columbus East finished seventh with a 360. Cole Schaefer led the Olympians with an 83, while Pierce Arnholt carded an 87, Spencer Erfmeier added a 90, JT Kuhlman shot 100 and Casey Bartholomew had a 112.
Jennings finished eighth with a 364. Brett Silvey led the Panthers with an 83, while Jack George carded an 89, Jake Grider added a 95, Chad Gasper shot 97 and Tanner Stearns had a 108.
Eagles take 10th
BLOOMINGTON — Brown County finished 10th with a 481 in Edgewood’s Mustang Invitational at Cascades.
Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with a 100. Clay Austin added a 123, Bradley Arndt and Jordan Burnett each shot 129 and Dylan Taylor had a 138.
GIRLS TENNIS
North blanks Devils
JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jeffersonville Invitational was canceled, but No. 3 Columbus North played the Red Devils in a dual match and cruised to a 5-0 victory.
Ashlie Wilson beat Addie Scott at No. 1 singles, and Kathryn Wilson blanked Lydia Kittrell at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Bull Dogs (4-0). Arya Gotoh downed Alexis Evans 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
North’s Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu topped Loran Halstead and Evelyn Minton 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Leah George and Sydney Cooper beat Tiara Jones and Jocelyn Lopez 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Jets nip Batesville
BATESVILLE — Batesville won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, but Hauser took the other three to claim a 3-2 victory.
Bella Kilps beat Chloe Saler 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (2-2). Aunaka Wasi and Emily Harker downed Kayla Stone and Cayman Werner 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns topped Cara Vansickle and Malia Scheele 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Hauser’s Andie Clark fell to Betsy Harmeyer 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Kaitlynn Everroad lost to Summer Ratcliffe 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Panthers top Trinity
SEYMOUR — Jennings County won three matches in straight sets in a 4-1 victory at Trinity Lutheran.
Reagan Brown beat Sarah Lemming 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown topped Reagan Cain 2-6, 7-5, (10-8) at No. 2 singles and Carmen Kopitzke blanked Erin Enzinger 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (5-1). Jennings’ Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson defeated Rebekah Brown and Drew Hubbard 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Trinity’s win came at No. 2 doubles, where Katelyn Mensendiek and Kiley Zabel beat Hannah Green and Cassidy Mull 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
BASEBALL
Hauser splits pair
HOPE — Hauser bounced back from an 11-1, six-inning loss to Lawrenceburg with a 10-6 win against South Central.
The Jets were within 3-1 after five innings against Lawrenceburg, but the Tigers scored eight runs in the sixth. Alex Pattingill and Owen McIntyre combined on a three-hitter.
Against South Central, Hauser (4-3) broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Sam Miller had a double and four RBIs, and Clayton West threw a nine-hitter.
Cougars run-rule Eagles
GREENSBURG — Avery Seegers went 3 for 3 with two home runs, a triple and seven RBIs to lead South Decatur to a 21-2, four-inning win against Brown County.
Zaydun Sharp went 3 for 3, Wyatt Gatewood went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Clayton McNealy went 2 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for the Cougars (4-6). Dale Peters and Seegers combined on a three-hitter.
Travis Ely went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple for the Eagles.
SOFTBALL
Marauders sweep East
Mt. Vernon swept a doubleheader at Columbus East, winning 10-1 and 12-6.
Saige Stahl went 2 for 3 with a home run in the second game for the Olympians (2-7). Kaylee Cole went 2 for 3 with a double, and Julia Sitterding went 2 for 4 with a double.
Crusaders fall to Mohawks
WALDRON — Columbus Christian was within 3-0 after four innings, but Waldron scored seven times in the fifth and went on to post an 11-1, six-inning victory.
Kinidy Morgan, Madi Blair and Eva Blair had hits for the Crusaders (1-2).
TRACK AND FIELD
Cougar girls win invite
KNIGHSTOWN — South Decatur’s girls won the Knightstown Panther Invitational on Friday, scoring 113.5 points to 105 for runner-up North Decatur.
Maria Nobbe won the 300-meter hurdles in 55.11 seconds to lead the Cougars. Lana Bell finished second in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches) and third in the discus (86-4).
South Decatur’s boys scored 94 points to finish third behind Milan (126) and Tri (101). Ian Frensemeier won the shot put (42-6), and the Cougars took the 4×100 relay (49.78).
