BASEBALL

East blanks Edgewood

Kaden Wise and Ethan Ianni combined on a three-hit shutout Monday to lead Columbus East to a 3-0 win against Edgewood.

Wise allowed three hits and struck out 11 and did not walk a batter in six innings in picking up the win. Ianni struck out one in a perfect seventh.

Josh Luedeke went 2 for 2 with a double for the Olympians (5-4-1). Ben Major had their only other hit.

Jets topple Lancers

EDINBURGH — Hauser scored five times in the first inning and scored in every inning on its way to a 21-6 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Edinburgh.

Winning pitcher Aaron Rork went 3 for 5 with a double and four RBIs, and Eli Miller went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Jets (5-3, 3-0). Bryce Trotter went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Kobe Meahl went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and Sam Miller went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Gabe Bennett went 2 for 4 for the Lancers (0-4, 0-3). Ian Buchanan had two RBIs.

GIRLS TENNIS

North sweeps Cougars

BLOOMINGTON — No. 3 Columbus North inserted a couple of new players into its lineup and rolled to a 5-0 Conference Indiana win at Bloomington North.

Ashlie Wilson beat Alex Shirley 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Kathryn Wilson blanked Rena Cohen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Siri Poludasu downed Lucy Smith 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (5-0, 2-0).

Columbus North’s Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu topped Brooke Bailey and Keika Murphy 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Leah George and Zoe Bishop beat Ellie Bruce and Siggy Force 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

East falls to Greensburg

GREENSBURG — Greensburg won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Columbus East.

Katie Hong fell to Jenna Foster 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Shruthika Kumar lost to Ella Chapman 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Ashlynn Waddel fell to Olivia Colson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-6).

East’s Cathrine Millwood and Cassidy Schnur lost to Mollie Pumphrey and Abigail Hoeing 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Monica Burton and Katey Rieckers fell to Hailey Duerstock and Janae Comer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets edge Yellow Jackets

HOPE — Hauser pulled out a three-set win at No. 3 singles to claim a 3-2 MHC win against Morristown.

Bella Kilps beat Aubrea Trattner 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (3-2, 3-0). Aunaka Wasil and Charlie Clark blanked Karli Manship and Ryeland Brewer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Gabby Johns and Ally Deweese won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Hauser’s Andie Clark fell to Emma Theobald 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Kaitlynn Everroad lost to Beth Hodgin 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

Eagles down Braves

BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown Central won the No. 1 singles match, but Brown County took the other four in a 4-1 victory.

Anna Tipton beat Jenna Bolte 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Anna Stogdill downed Leah Pottschmidt 6-1, 6-0 aty No. 3 singles for the Eagles (3-1). Londyn Koester and Katie Tipton topped Chelsea Luedman and Emily Mann 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Mattie Satter and Abi Bowman beat Lydia Luedman and Kylie Eglen 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Julia Williams fell to Hannah Hackman 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-3 at No. 1 singles.

Lancers nip Spartans

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh pulled out a 3-2 MHC win against Southwestern (Shelby), when the Spartans had to default in the second set at No. 1 singles.

Annelise Lollar dropped the first set to Kyla Robertson 7-6 and was leading the second 2-1 when Robertson defaulted at No. 1 singles. The Lancers’ Bethany Burton beat Lauryn Blondell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, and Alysssa Funkhouser and Peyton Bryant topped Sydney Ebersold and McKinley Correll 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Edinburgh’s Jessica Walsh fell to Brooklyn Schneider 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida lost to Faith Kelley and Ella Rice 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets rout Tigers

FAIRLAND — Paige McDaniel threw a two-hitter and went 2 for 4 to lead Class A co-No. 4 Hauser to a 13-3 win at Triton Central.

Hannah Taylor went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, Dani Steward went 3 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs and Kyra Meister went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Jets (8-2). Reagan Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Hannah Johnson went 2 for 4 and Kylie Mack went 2 for 5.

Cougars top Crusaders

Columbus Christian was within 7-4 after three innings, but South Decatur scored twice in the fourth and seven times in the fifth to pull away for a 16-4 victory.

Loryn Pate threw a five-hitter and went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Cougars (3-4). Megan Manlief went 2 for 4 with a double, Madison Mikulec went 2 for 4 and Molly Eden had two RBIs.

Kinidy Morgan had a double for the Crusaders (1-3). Emily Stair struck out nine.

Panthers stop Trinity

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County built a 5-0 lead after three innings and went on to post an 8-2 win against Trinity Lutheran.

Tori Lee went 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Panthers (5-8). Alania Young went 2 for 3 with a double, and Shelby Wilson went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Genesis Munoz went 2 for 3 for the Cougars.

BOYS GOLF

Jets slip past Lancers

Chase Martoccia won medalist honors with a 45 to lead Hauser to a 214-225 win against Edinburgh at Otter Creek.

Daniel Taylor carded a 53 for the Jets. Brock Thalls added a 56, Caleb Wallace and Jesse Bragg each shot 58, Justice Gilliland had a 59 and Ben Johnson finished with a 65.

Braves outscore Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County fell to Brownstown Central 187-247 at Salt Creek.

Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with a 52. Clay Austin added a 61, Bradley Arndt and Jordan Burnett each shot 67 and Dylan Taylor had a 69.
