10:15 p.m. update:
Residents near Abbey Lane and County Road 200W are being allowed to return to their homes after being told the gas leak repair was completed.
7 p.m. update
Bartholomew County Emergency Management said a 10-inch gas line was severed in the area of County Road 200W and Abbey Lane. About 15 homes have been evacuated. Vectren has reached the scene and gas will be shut off within the next 30 minutes and will be off for an extended length of time.
Those who will be affected by this outage are from Lowell Road south to Princeton Park and Talberton addition, and north from Abbey Place to the river,
6:35 p.m. update
The city has sent out an Everbridge alert asking for the evacuation of the area of County Road 200W and and Abbey Lane due to the gas leak. In a followup message at 6:50 p.m., the city is seeking evacuation of Abbey Place subdivision and also is asking motorists to avoid the area.
ORIGINAL STORY
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters are at the scene of a gas leak in the area of Abbey Lane in Columbus, where about 15 homeowners have been evacuated as a precaution.
Columbus Fire Department has two engines on the scene and Vectren representatives are expected to arrive shortly.
A contractor is believed to have severed a gas line in the area leading to the gas leak. No injuries have been reported.
