It will be Columbus North and Edinburgh meeting for the North Sectional girls tennis championship this afternoon.
While the fifth-ranked Bull Dogs were cruising to a 5-0 win against Brown County, Edinburgh pulled out a shocking 3-2 win for the second consecutive day. The Lancers, who edged Hauser in Wednesday’s opening round, shocked Columbus East in Thursday’s semifinals.
The wins against both Hauser and East avenged regular-season defeats for Edinburgh (7-10).
Against the Olympians (3-15), the Lancers’ Annelise Lollar beat Ayano Nomura 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Bethany Burton topped Cathrine Millwood 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. The deciding point came at No. 1 doubles, where Peyton Bryant and Alyssa Funkhouser edged Monica Burton and Cassidy Schnur 6-3, 7-6 (5).
East’s wins came at No. 3 singles, where Katie Hong beat 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and No. 2 doubles, where Katey Rieckers and Shruthika Kumar topped Gracie Myers and Zoey Sida 6-2, 6-3.
Meanwhile, North (14-2) did not drop a set in its victory against Brown County (7-8). Ashlie Wilson was leading Julia Williams 4-0 in the first set when Williams injury defaulted.
The Bull Dogs’ Kathryn Wilson blanked Anna Tipton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Arya Gotoh beat Anna Stogsdill 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu topped Londyn Koester and Katie Tipton 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Sydney Cooper and Leah George blanked Abigail Bowman and Mattie Satter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
North and Edinburgh will meet for the sectional title at 4:30 p.m. today. The winner advances to the Bloomington South Regional, which will be Tuesday and Wednesday.
