BASEBALL

Bull Dogs edge Trojans

Austin Bode knocked in all three Columbus North runs Thursday to lead the Class 4A No. 2 Bull Dogs to a 3-2 win against 4A No. 3 Center Grove.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. But Bode homered in the bottom of the first to cut the lead in half, then lined a two-run single in the fifth to give North (22-4-1) the lead.

Kyler McIntosh threw a five-hitter for the Bull Dogs. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

East downs Franklin

Columbus East jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and held on for an 11-7 win against Franklin.

Harry Major went 3 for 5 for the Olympians (12-10-1). Kaden Wise went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, T.J. Barkhimer went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Clayton Taylor went 2 for 3 and Ben Major went 2 for 4.

Mohawks blank Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh was limited to four hits in a 13-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss to Waldron.

Noah Detling went 2 for 3 for the Lancers (0-13, 0-9).

SOFTBALL

East falls to Scottsburg

Columbus East closed its regular season with a 7-1 loss to Scottsburg.

Kenzie Foster went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (7-18).

Panthers nip Knights

AURORA — Shelby Wilson threw a two-hit shutout to lead Jennings County to a 1-0 win at South Dearborn.

Delaynee McCreary had a double and knocked in the game’s lone run for the Panthers (11-15).

Chargers top Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur finished it’s Mid-Hoosier Conference schedule with an 8-1 loss at North Decatur.

The Cougars (4-14, 2-7) were limited to three hits.

BOYS GOLF

East outscore Batesville

BATESVILLE — Kody Reynolds won medalist honors with a 41 to lead Columbus East to a 182-192 victory at Batesville.

Cole Schaefer and Pierce Arnholt each shot 46 for the Olympians. J.T. Kuhlman carded a 49, Spencer Erfmeier added a 52 and Casey Bartholomew had a 56.

Jets stop Spartans

Justice Gilliland won medalist honors with a 46 to led Hauser to a 144-155 win against Southwestern (Shelby) in a match that used scores from only the teams’ top three players).

Chase Martoccia carded a 47, and Caleb Wallace added a 51 for the Jets. Daniel Taylor shot 55, Brock Thalls had a 56, Ben Johnson shot 57 and Jesse Bragg finished with a 59.

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers move to final

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pulled out a 3-2 win against Shawe Memorial in the semifinals of the Jennings Sectional.

Reagan Brown beat Abigail Hill 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (14-8). Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson topped Lina Leatherman and Jessica Lopez 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green downed Autumn Lathrem and Carson Cooke 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Tatum Brown fell to Phoebe Grote Tatum Brown 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Carmen Kopitzke lost to Lauren Grote 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Panthers will play Southwestern (Hanover) for the sectional title at 10 a.m. Saturday.
