North wins Carmel invite

CARMEL — Class 4A No. 2 Columbus North beat Chesterton 11-7, then rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to pull out a 5-4, eight-inning win against Cathedral Saturday to capture Carmel’s Greyhound Invitational.

Blake Stevens went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Austin Bode went 2 for 3 with a home run against Chesterton. Zach Wager, Gage Bayne and Jacob Bailey combined on an eight-hitter.

In the final, Will Baker gave up two runs in the first and two more in the second, but shut down the Irish over the final six innings to throw a complete-game five-hitter. Kyler McIntosh went 3 for 4, and Bode had another homer and two RBIs. The Bull Dogs (24-4-1) won it in the eighth on an walkoff sacrifice fly from Luke Harmon.

Millers sweep Olympians

NOBLESVILLE — Columbus East outhit Noblesville 22-16 in a doubleheader, but dropped both games 9-4 and 10-9.

Will Rieckers went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs in the opener. Logan Christophel went 2 for 3, and Ben Major went 2 for 4.

In the second game, the Olympians (12-12-1) came back from a 10-4 defict and cut the final margin to one with a three-run ninth. Clayton Taylor went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Rieckers went 3 for 5, Ethan Ianni went 2 for 4 with a double, Harry Major went 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs and Ben Major went 2 for 5.

Cougars top Jets

ODON — Hauser cut a 6-1 deficit to 6-5 with a four-run fifth, but Class A No. 2 North Daviess pulled away for a 10-5 victory.

Koby Johnson went 2 for 3 with a double for the Jets (17-10). Kobe Meahl had a double and two RBIs.

Panthers split with Bears

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County split a doubleheader with Shelbyville, winning 8-0 and falling 9-1.

Keegan Manowitz threw a five-hitter, and Carson McNulty went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs in the victory. Austin Martin added two RBIs.

McNulty went 3 for 4 with a double in the loss for the Panthers (14-10).

Mohawks edge Lancers

WALDRON — Edinburgh scored four runs in the seventh to tie the game, but Waldron pushed across a run in the eighth to claim an 8-7 Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Landen Burton went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Lancers (1-15, 0-10). Jarrett Turner went 2 for 3 with a double.

BOYS GOLF

East takes fifth in HHC

SEYMOUR — Columbus East finished fifth with a season-best 343 in the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament at Shadowood. Bedford North Lawrence edged Floyd Central 314-315 for the title.

Kody Reynolds finished 10th individually with an 80 to earn honorable mention All-Conference honors. Spencer Erfmeier added an 85, Cole Schaefer and Pierce Arnholt each shot 89 and J.T. Kuhlman had a 93.

Jennings County finished eighth with a 385. Brett Silvey led the Panthers with an 88, while Jack George carded a 94, Chad Gasper added a 101, Jake Grider shot 102 and Tanner Stearns had a 108.

Jets finish third in MHC

GREENSBURG — Hauser finished third in the MHC Tournament with a 390 at North Branch. Host North Decatur won with a 331.

Justice Gilliland led the Jets with a 92. Chase Martoccia added a 93, Caleb Wallace shot 96 and Jesse Bragg had a 109.

Edinburgh finished fourth with a 410. Max Blandford led the Lancers with an 84, while Mason Calhoun added a 93, Trevor Moon shot 105 and Keegan Smith had a 128.

Eagles card season-best

NEW CASTLE — Brown County finished with a season-best 419 in the New Castle Invitational at Westwood Country Club.

Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with an 89. Clay Austin added a 103, Bradley Arndt shot 112 and Jordan Burnett had a 115.

Trinity takes sixth

CONNERSVILLE — Trinity Lutheran finished sixth with a 404 in the Connersville Inviational at Willowbrook Country Club.

Jacob Sabotin finished third individually with an 83. Kade Hill added an 99, Caleb Williams shot 109 and Preston Kovener had a 113.

UNIFIED TRACK

East seventh, North ninth

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East and Columbus North saw their seasons come to an end with seventh- and ninth-place finishes in the Bloomington North Sectional.

Bloomington South edged the host Cougars 116-115 for the team title. The Olympians finished with 84 points, and the Bull Dogs had 76.

Sarah Boggs won Flight 6 of the shot put (20 feet, 7 inches), and Austin Campbell won Heat 3 of the 400 meters (1 minute, 8.54 seconds) to lead East. Jackson Eaken finished second in Flight 4 of the long jump (8-6), Peyton Meier took second in Flight 3 of the shot put (22-0) and Isabelle Westerfeld was second in Heat 3 of the 100 (15.80).

Columbus North’s Madison White (23-9 1/2) and Alexa McKinley (23-6 1/4) won Flights 3 and 4 of the shot. Seth Rankin finished second in Heat 6 of the 100 (30.36), and Gavin Bayne was second in Heat 3 of the 400 (1:11.11).

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers fall in final

NORTH VERNON — Southwestern (Hanover) pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to edge Jennings County 3-2 in the Jennings Sectional final.

Reagan Brown beat Ellie Ford 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and will advance in the individual singles tournament. Carmen Kopitzke topped Audrey Bare 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (14-9).

Jennings’ Tatum Brown fell to Julia Worcester 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson lost to Autumn Harmon and Chloe Adcock 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green fell to Syernia Hardy and Alliana Voorhies 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
