Jets open with win
RISING SUN — Hauser scored twice in each of the first two innings Monday and went on to post a 7-2 win against Rising Sun in the opening round of the Rising Sun Sectional.
Kyra Meister went 3 for 5 with a double for the Jets (22-4), who pounded out 13 hits. Dani Steward went 2 for 3 with a double, and Hannah Taylor and Zoee Nading each went 2 for 4.
Paige McDaniel threw a seven-hitter.
Hauser advances to tonight’s semifinals, where it will play Oldenburg Academy at around 7:30 p.m. The sectional final is at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Lancers blank Mohawks
EDINBURGH — MacKenzie Bieker had a home run and three RBIs and threw a five-hit shutout to lead Edinburgh to a 14-0, five-inning win against Waldron in the opening round of the Edinburgh Sectional.
Shelby Graham went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for the Lancers (13-9). Kyah Streeval added a double and two RBIs.
Edinburgh scored five runs in the second, then broke it open with nine in the fourth. The Lancers advance to face Morristown in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The sectional final is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Floyd edges Jennings
NORTH VERNON — Floyd Central jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and held on for a 5-4 win against Jennings County in the opening round of the Jennings Sectional.
Shelby Wilson went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Panthers (11-16). Kenzie Matern threw a five-hitter and did not allow an earned run.
BASEBALL
Jets down Saints
INDIANAPOLIS — Koby Johnson threw a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and had a home run and three RBIs to lead Hauser to a 12-3 win at Indianapolis Lutheran in the regular-season finale.
Kobe Meahl went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Jets (18-10). Levi Gollmer went 2 for 4 and Eli Miller hit a grand slam, his third in two weeks.
BOYS GOLF
Bull Dogs top Pirates
GREENSBURG — Luke VanDeventer and Tyler Wilks each shot even-par 35 to share medalist honors and lead No. 11 Columbus North to a 145-173 win against Greensburg at Greensburg Country Club.
Jacob Niedbalski carded a 37 for the Bull Dogs. Jack Schiavello added a 38, Willy Davis and John Merritt each shot 40 and Aditya Banerjee and Damon Gregory each shot 44.
Jets finish third
Justice Gilliland won medalist honors with a 40, but Hauser finished third in a tri match at Otter Creek. Batesville won with a 180 to 190 for Rushville and 203 for the Jets.
Ben Johnson carded a 56 for Hauser. Chase Martoccia and Caleb Wallace each shot 51, Brock Thalls added a 61 and Jesse Bragg had a 63.
