On April 15, Bartholomew County Superior 1 Judge Jim Worton was presented with the 2021 Sgt. Steven P. Mennemeyer Memorial Award at the Bartholomew County Veteran’s Treatment Court.
The award is given each year in memory of Army Sgt. Steven P. Mennemeyer, who died Aug. 8, 2006 while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It is presented to someone who has made the most significant impact, achievement, or contribution to Veteran’s in Indiana through their work in the criminal justice system.
Worton was nominated by the Veteran’s Treatment Court team, with supporting letters from U.S. Rep. Greg Pence, retired Maj. Gen. Mark Pillar, and local attorney Kevin King. Pillar and King both serve as veteran mentors in the Veteran’s Treatment Court.
In addition, on April 29, Worton was recognized for having received this award at the annual Justice Services Conference presented by the Indiana Office of Court Services.
