Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies said a motorcyclist was traveling southbound on State Road 11 at a high rate of speed before he was killed in a collision with a FedEx truck on Sunday.
Deputies were sent to South Jonesville Road and East County Road 850S about the accident at 4:37 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the motorcyclist, Sterling A. Wessel, 30, Jonesville, deceased at the scene.
Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said his office was called to the scene and pronounced Wessel dead from massive trauma.
Several witnesses told investigators that the motorcycle was traveling south on State Road 11 (Jonesville Road) at a high rate of speed when it collided with a FedEx delivery truck. The driver of the truck was checked and cleared by Columbus Regional Health ambulance service personnel at the scene.
Indiana State Trooper Matt Holley is doing a crash reconstruction of the scene.
An investigation is continuing, deputies said. Primary deputy was Jon Lanning and assisting deputy was Colton Fowler. Indiana State Police, Wayne Township Fire Department and CRH emergency medical services assisted at the scene.
