COLUMBUS

David Wayne Michael, 64, of Columbus, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at 8:01 p.m. at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department.

Mr. Michael was born on August 1, 1956, in Columbus, Indiana the son of Herbert L. and Vivian C. Hilderbrand Michael. On June 16, 1990, he married Diana K. Monroe Sanders.

David retired from Milestone Contractors and was a member of the Local 741 Laborers Union, American Legion in Edinburgh, Fraternal Order of Eagles 741, and the American Hunting Association. He had previously volunteered with the German Township Volunteer Fire Department. David loved spending time with his friends and family, going to the river at Heflin Park, camping, deer hunting, fishing and nature. He always had a tremendous love for animals, whether it be watching them or feeding them. He always fed any animal that came to their home and was known to carry around food with him to give to animals along his drive. During his days of playing football and basketball, he was a very competitive athlete and always loved playing.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Diana K. Michael of Columbus; step-daughters, Loretta (Terry) Bailey of Commiskey, Tina Renee Sanders of Taylorsville, Fonda Kay Sanders of Franklin; grandchildren, Scott Bailey, Travis Bailey, Latosha Kay Burton, Andrew Newby; six great grandchildren; sister, Sheila (Rex) Renner of Columbus; and nephews, Scott (Jill) Renner of Seymour and Jason (Dawn) Renner of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with David Spicer officiating.

Family and friends may call for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In keeping with Mr. Michael’s wishes cremation will follow services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society or German Township Volunteer Fire Department.
