Robbery suspects arrested after a 35 mile pursuit, police report

SEYMOUR — Two Indianapolis men face several charges related to the robbery of liquor store Friday afternoon on Seymour’s northside.

The incident that led to the arrest of Bryant Anthony Edwards, 23, and Lawrence D. Green, 33, began at 2:46 p.m. Friday when Seymour dispatchers received a call from Northside Liquors at 821 N. Ewing St. about a robbery, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department.

It ended with the arrests of the pair near the 85 mile marker in Johnson County.

Greene and Edwards both face preliminary charges of robbery, a Level 3 felony, and resisting law enforcement, Sgt. Ryan Huddleston said Sunday afternoon.

Greene also faces additional preliminary charges of intimidation, reckless driving, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony, and driving while suspended with a prior suspension within 10 years.

Seymour officers responding to the robbery report were able to intercept a suspect vehicle matching the description given by the caller as it left the area at a high rate of speed northbound on Ewing Street, police reported.

The driver of that vehicle, later identified Green, fled police, initiating a pursuit that continued north on Ewing Street, known as State Road 11 outside the city, to the Jonesville exit on Interstate 65, police report.

The vehicle then turned north on the interstate and continued to flee at a high rate of speed, police said.

Seymour officers continued the pursuit north on I-65 and were assisted by various officers with other law enforcement agencies who deployed stop devices to try to slow or stop the vehicle.

That vehicle then left the roadway near the 85 mile marker ending the pursuit.

Green fled on foot into a field where he was apprehended a short time later, police said, while a male passenger, later identified as Bryant, resisted arrest and was taken into custody from the vehicle. No one was injured in the pursuit and capture of the two men.

Bryant and Green also are implicated in another incident of similar nature in Bartholomew County and possibly others elsewhere, Huddleston said.

The investigation is ongoing.
