Cummins Inc. continued to battle with its insurance companies over $128 million in flood damage claims and Columbus Regional Hospital made plans to construct a $4.7 million flood wall required by FEMA after the flood in 2008.

Several companies comprising the county’s 10 largest business taxpayers agreed to pay property taxes a month early to help the county treasury weather the reassessment fiasco that had held up tax payments to the county for more than two months.

A bolt of lightning set off a $200,000, three-alarm blaze that destroyed the processing plant at Columbus Creosoting Co. on Lafayette Avenue near First Street.
