EDINBURGH
Linda Louise Vawter, 73, of Edinburgh, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at her residence.
Born July 31, 1947, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Velma (Campbell) Wickens. She married Delbert Vawter on February 4, 1967, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon; he survives.
Linda was a 1965 graduate of Shawe Memorial Jr/Sr High School in Madison and 1966 graduate of Sullivan College in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked as an office manager for Our Hospice of Jennings County for 12 years and had previously worked in the pathology department for Columbus Regional Hospital and secretary/bookkeeper for Injection Mold. Linda enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and football, traveling and being a mom.
Surviving with her husband, Delbert are sons, Joe (Tammy) Vawter of Columbus, Jason (Rhonda) Vawter of Greensburg and Matthew (Cathy) Vawter of Vernon; grandchildren, Marley Vawter of Chicago, Illinois, Emily Vawter, Eli Vawter, Eleanor Vawter and Luke Vawter, all of North Vernon, and Kalli Johnson of Greensburg; and great-grandchildren, Jaxon Waggman of Hayden, Thomas Borntreger and Tara Johnson, both of Scottsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Joan Anglin and Jack Wickens.
A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon with Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service to be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Linda to the Alzheimer’s Association or Our Hospice of Jennings County.
