Kathleen R. Smith

EDINBURGH, INDIANA

Mrs. Kathleen R. Smith, 89, of Edinburgh, passed away Tuesday morning, August 3, 2021 at Otterbien United Methodist Home of Franklin. She was born June 16, 1932, in Edinburgh, to the late James L. and Edna Goble Records.

She attended Edinburgh Schools and graduated in 1950. After high school, she attended Louisville General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1954. She was a traveling nurse for several years in Louisville, Minnesota and Florida. She then returned to work at Columbus Hospital.

Kathleen was married to Normand C. Smith September 10, 1960, at New Hope Christian Church. After they married, she worked at Home Hospital in Lafayette, IN for a year before becoming a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.

Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of New Hope Christian Church where she volunteered with helping hands and odd jobs around the church.

She loved watching the birds, spending time with her family, playing games, ladies’ Bible studies and retreats.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Marilyn (Dale) Harlow of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Michael (Andrea) Smith of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, and Saralea (James) Howard of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Jordan (Emily) Harlow of Urbandale, Iowa, Spencer (Kelly) Harlow of Andover, Kansas, Taylor (Kayla) Harlow of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Trent (Bethany) Harlow of Carlisle, Iowa, Shelby (Bryce) Beall of Edinburgh, Madison Slack of Attica, Indiana, and Olivia Slack of Columbus and thirteen great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Normand; her parents; three brothers, Carl Records, Neal (Luci) Records, and Richard (Arnola) Records; and a brother-in-law Lester (Lena) Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at New Hope Christian Church, 1404 West 400 North, Columbus, Indiana, with Pastor John Sichting officiating. Visitation will be the same day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be at New Hope Christian Church Cemetery. Memorials can be made to New Hope Christian Church or donors’ choice of charities.
