Ruth Joy Fish

Ruth Joy Fish departed this life on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, leaving behind a host of family and friends to mourn her.

She was born on January 14, 1937, in Clearspring, to Luke Luther and Ruby Nell (Cummings) Fisher, the seventh of 11 children. She married Jefferson Christian Harrell on October 23, 1955, and he preceded her in death in 1960. She married Jacob Henry Fish on July 18, 1962, and he also preceded her in death in 2008.

She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Harrell, of Indianapolis; four foster-daughters: Leah Howe of Columbus, Belinda (Dave) Pereira of Avon, Wendee (Dale) Glentzer of Tennessee, and Janie (Mike) Speedy of Montana; one sister, Sue (Russell) Callahan of Medora; two brothers: Dwight Fisher and Danny (Kay) Fisher of Norman; eleven grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two children: Carolyn and Robin Harrell; three stepsons: Tony Fish, Ron Personette, and Kevin Personette; four sisters: Norma Lou Miller, Wanda Fisher, June Hoaks, and Faye Brittain; three brothers: Donny Fisher, Dean Fisher, and David Fisher; and one grandchild, Jamey Personette.

She lived a life devoted to the care of others, raising two foster children from childhood and caring for eight others. All remember a kind home and a loving mother. In later years, she enjoyed making gift boxes for less fortunate children overseas.

Funeral services for Ruth Joy Fish will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Liberty Christian Church, Norman, with Pastor Chris Criminger officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 10, at Liberty Christian Church.

Interment will be at Liberty Christian Church Cemetery, Norman. Memorials may be given to Liberty Christian Church Cemetery.
