Bull Dogs boys soccer edges Cougars

One goal was all that was needed in Thursday’s night Conference Indiana boys soccer match between Bloomington North and Columbus North.

The Bull Dogs scored the goal in the first half and went on to post a 1-0 victory at the BCSC Soccer Complex. Columbus North moves to 2-0 overall and in the conference.

After both teams battled back and forth for the first 20 minutes of the match, the Bull Dogs finally got on the board in the 22nd minute when Aidan Whitley’s shot in the box was saved by Cougars goalkeeper Ryan Mooney, but Mooney didn’t catch the ball cleanly, and Jesse Williams was there to collect the rebound for the goal to give Columbus North a 1-0 lead.

That score would hold for the rest of the game, as the Bull Dogs kept Bloomington North off the scoreboard.

Overall, Columbus North totaled 21 shots with 12 of them on goal. Goalkeeper Oscar Ballinas recorded five saves.

Williams’ goal was his second of the season. He also netted a goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Southport.

The Bull Dogs travel to Jeffersonville Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. varsity start. Columbus North then will turn their attention to its crosstown rivalry battle with Columbus East on Thursday, back at the BCSC complex.
