They waited two days to play. And then they waited some more.

Columbus North and Columbus East originally were scheduled to meet in boys soccer on Thursday night. Persistent lightning led to the postponement of that game to Saturday night.

The Bull Dogs and Olympians returned to the BCSC Soccer Complex Saturday night, but so did the lightning. The teams went through introductions and were on the pitch ready for the kickoff when lighting was spotted.

About an hour-and-a-half later, the teams reemerged on the field, this time for good. And it was North that came away with a 2-1 victory.

The Bull Dogs got on the board late in the first half when Aidan Whitley took a pass from Misaki Takemoto and finished from the left side of the box in the 39th minute.

Leading 1-0 at halftime, North struck again early in the second half. Nathan Imlay headed in a corner kick from Whitley in the 43rd minute to make it 2-0.

The Olympians got on the board in the 58th minute when Chris Quisenberry took a free kick from 23 yards and put it in the upper right corner of the net, just out of the reach of Bull Dog keeper Oscar Ballinas.

Quisenberry had a chance to tie in the final few minutes, but his shot from the top of box sailed just over the crossbar.

North finished with a 12-6 shot advantage. The Bull Dogs put seven shots on goal to four for the Olympians.

Pete Coriden recorded five saves for East. Ballinas finished with three saves for North.
