ELIZABETHTOWN
Charles T. Swengel Sr., 82, of Elizabethtown, passed from this life at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana.
Mr. Swengel was born June 9, 1939, at home in Bartholomew County, the son of Francis and Elizabeth Burton Swengel.
He married Juanita F. Mitchell December 24, 1958.
Charles retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2000 after 37 years of service.
He enjoyed traveling the U.S. playing softball, fishing, hunting, farming and raising Brittany Spaniel bird dogs for hunting pheasant and quail.
He had the joy of being on the winning team of the Senior World Series and was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years; his children, Daniel Swengel of Elizabethtown and Cindy (David) McMath of Fishers; grandchildren, Robert Swengel, Kathryn McMath and Benjamin McMath; step-granddaughter, Miranda Beeman and a step-great-grandson, Ezra Beeman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Swengel; mother, Elizabeth Swengel Christopher; son, Charles T. Swengel Jr. and a brother, David E. Swengel.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Evan Bever officiating.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Following the service burial will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery.
