Jerry W. ‘Jay’ Comer Jr.

COLUMBUS

Jerry W. “Jay” Comer Jr., 53, of Columbus, passed from this life at 3:50 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at his home.

Jay was born August 29, 1968, in Clark County, Indiana, the son of Jerry W. Comer Sr. and Barbara Neil Lytle Comer.

He married Julie E. Franke, March 14, 2011, at their favorite place on the beach in Panama City, Florida where they vacationed together for over ten years with the Franke family.

Jay was a friend to all that knew him and would have given everything he had to anyone who needed it. Jay showed his love through serving others and his love knew no bounds. He adored his wife Julie, their daughters Elle and Gracie, and their five dogs who were his constant companions throughout his four-year battle with cancer. Jay and Julie dreamed of building their forever home on family property and Jay made that dream a reality by dedicating his final years to creating their sanctuary where his hard work can be seen all around their beautiful home and land.

Jay grew up farming with his family in Scottsburg, Indiana and enjoyed every opportunity he got to lend a hand in helping his brother-in-law farm and his father-in-law manage their properties. He had a deep passion for farming equipment and spent many weekends at tractor shows with his little brother Shawn. He loved the community he found at the Downtown Dairy Queen and spending time at the big table with Bob. Jay was a vital part in supporting Julie behind the scenes at the Dairy Queen and developed deep friendships with all the employees.

He was formerly employed as a Cable Technician at Comcast for 23 years and was a 1987 graduate of Scottsburg High School. He attended St. Peters Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years; children, Elle and Gracie Hatton both of Columbus; sisters, Cindy (Terry) Jones of Scottsburg and Shawn Comer (Bobbie Gourley) of Scottsburg; father-in-law, Bob Franke of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Jill (Gary) Arnholt, Jennifer (Chris) Eggers and Janae (Steve) Norman all of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephews, Derek and Dustin Jones; grandparents, Robert and Lorraine Lytle, Floyd Comer and Regina Cochran and his mother-in-law, Noel Franke.
