An IUPUC employee has been chosen to lead the Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation.

The foundation’s current director, Suzi Bruin, is retiring next month after five years with the foundation. She confirmed that Nicole Cunningham, an academic advisor and adjunct teacher with IUPUC, will take on the role. Her first official day will be Dec. 2, with Bruin’s last day set for Dec. 7.

While Cunningham is currently wrapping up her current position, the two of them are in communication, and the transition has already begun, said Bruin. Cunningham said she’s excited to get started and has been working to learn from her predecessor.

“I’m sad to leave my students and my colleagues, but I’m looking at this as a real opportunity to really bring about change in the community,” she said. “I think it goes without saying that I have some really, really big shoes to fill.”

Bruin said she’s “excited” about what Nicole and community development coordinator Angie Emmitt will achieve for the foundation.

School Board Member Todd Grimes, who is on the BCSF board, mentioned the transition at Monday’s school board meeting.

“A big thanks to Suzi Bruin for her energy, enthusiasm and dedication to the school foundation,” Grimes said. He also congratulated Cunningham.

Bruin reflected fondly on her time with the foundation.

“The amount of community support and appreciation of what happens in our schools and being able to support that has been incredible,” she said.

BCSF’s mission statement is “To support the work of BCSC and by promoting awareness and philanthropy for programs that help students achieve educational excellence.”
