East opens with rout

SEYMOUR — Eleventh-ranked Columbus East opened it season Thursday with a 73-6 win at Seymour.

Jordan Sutton (170 pounds), Tristan Statler (182), Ashton Hartwell (285), Liam Krueger (113), Nate Anderson (132) and Kenton Wilson (145) all won by pin for the Olympians. Kade Law (160), Jaden Durnil (195), Tommy Morrill (220), Noah Lykins (120) and Reece Fisher (138) all won by forfeit.

East’s Bo Wagner (126) won by major decision. Tony Ruiz-Tapia (152) won by decision.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

East sweeps Shelbyville

SHELBYVILLE — Columbus East’s boys opened their season with a 97-75 win at Shelbyville, and the East girls rolled to a 128-52 win against the Golden Bears.

Winners for the Olympian girls were Karissa Miller in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 29.38 seconds), Gabbie Meier in the diving competition (206.65), Kerigan Greathouse in the 100 butterfly (1:16.96), Ellie Proffitt in the 100 freestyle (57.99), Josie Havenaar in the 500 freestyle (6:07.99) and Maddie Beyer in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.49). East also won the 200 medley (2:02.47) and 200 freestyle (1:49.35) relays.

For the boys, Gavin Day won the diving (127.00), Dathan Wolf took the 100 backstroke (58.47) and Ethan Hall captured the 100 breaststroke (1:12.59). The Olympians also won the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.54).

North boys win

SEYMOUR — Columbus North split a dual at Seymour, winning the boys meet 122-61 and dropping the girls contest 104-82.

David Fry won the 200 freestyle (1:53.07) and 100 backstroke (58.91), and Daniel Utterback took the 50 freestyle (22.18) and 100 butterfly (54.48) to lead the Bull Frog boys. Cole Wheeler captured the diving competition (207.75), Matthew Goble won the 500 freestyle (5:20.45), Jade Abdallah took the 100 breaststroke (1:09.81) and North swept the 200 medley (1:44.88), 200 freestyle (1:33.85) and 400 freestyle (3:31.16) relays.

Winners for the North girls were Paige Maddox in the 200 freestyle (2:11.18), Lydia Putney in diving (156.95), Brooke Meek in the 100 freestyle (1:00.26), Lauren Brault in the 500 freestyle (5:56.77) and Abigail Henderson in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.69).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jets edge Saints

INDIANAPOLIS — Hauser jumped out to a 15-5 lead after one quarter and held on for a 50-48 win at Indianapolis Lutheran.

Kyliegh Parrott led the Jets (5-3) with 14 points. Madelyn Poe scored 10, and Norah Berkenstock added nine.

Panthers fall to Trojans

NORTH VERNON — Class 4A No. 10 Jennings County fell behind 24-5 after one quarter and went on to take a 64-50 setback against East Central.

Alivia Elmore led the Panthers (7-2) with 14 points. Juliann Woodard scored 14, and Alexis Carson added nine.

Trinity tops Lancers

EDINBURGH — Class A co-No. 2 Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter and went on to hand Edinburgh a 63-38 defeat.

Bailey Tabeling led the Cougars (6-0) with 27 points. Kailene Cockerham added 17.

Gracie Crawhorn scored 13 points to lead the Lancers (4-4). Callie Hancock and Cloee Britton each added eight.
