City approves subdivision improvements

A Columbus subdivision is moving forward with $2.26 million in improvements for its final section.

The Columbus Board of Works approved a subdivision improvement agreement with Arbor Homes for Section 5 of the Abbey Place major subdivision.

Abbey Place is located south of Lowell Road along County Road 200W.

A memo from senior planner Ashley Beckor indicates the approved preliminary plat for the subdivision includes 313 lots on 133 acres. The fifth and final section includes 92 lots and three blocks for buffer areas.

The total cost of improvements is estimated at a little over $2.26 million, and the developer will construct and install these improvements at their own expense, city officials said.

“For Abbey Place Section 5 the developer is seeking approval to begin construction of the streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, and other public improvements,” Beckort wrote. “They are not, at this time, also seeking approval for the final subdivision plat for this section.”

The board also approved a right of way dedication for Section 3 of the Abbey Place subdivision. According to city documents, the section includes 59 lots and a common area for a retention pond and pocket park. Beckort told the board that the approved subdivision improvement agreement for this section included construction on County Road 200W.

“During that construction, the applicant has installed the path slightly in the wrong location,” she said. “And to accommodate that, they’re dedicating an additional 2.5 feet of right of way so everything is in the right of way.”
