COLUMBUS, Ind. — IUPUC and Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus are hoping to see a return to more traditional graduation ceremonies in the new year.
Per a 2022 event schedule shared at a recent board meeting, Ivy Tech’s tentative plan for commencement is to have it on Saturday, May 14 at Columbus North High School.
“We are looking at a return to our traditional form,” said Ivy Tech Chancellor Steven Combs.
The college held a virtual ceremony via its YouTube channel in both 2020 and 2021. In the latter year, the college also hosted an in-person “Grad Fest” event for graduates and guests in front of Poling Hall. According to school officials, the drop-in event provided opportunities for students to pick up items such as diploma covers, take pictures in their caps and gowns, and celebrate with faculty and staff.
IUPUC, which is also located on the airpark campus, held an in-person ceremony in 2021, but attendance was limited to graduates only. A virtual option was available for guests.
Per the college’s graduation website, 2022 commencement is scheduled for Thursday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at IUPUC, and guests will be allowed to attend. Tickets are not required.
