COLUMBUS
Betty S. Arthur, 81 of Columbus passed away on December 9, 2021 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. She was born July 30, 1940 in Columbus, the daughter of Albert J. and Ruth Green Kirts. After graduation, she married James D. “Doug” Sr. on Feb. 12, 1960. The couple had a son, Doug Arthur, Jr. who resides in Columbus.
Betty retired from Reliance Electric after 25 years and she also worked and retired from Columbus Medical. In her younger years she enjoyed quilting, gardening and bowling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to their son, other survivors include grandchildren, James Douglas (Kortnee) Arthur, III of Hendersonville, TN; and Daniel (Rachel Rager) Arthur of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosalie, Victoria Shoshanna, John David and Laityn, as well as Betty’s sister, Evelyn V. Frazer and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her is her husband James; a brother, John W. Kirts and a sister, Rosemary Owsley.
Funeral services for Betty will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 14 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Derek Carpenter officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 13 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
