Two Seymour teenagers were arrested at a Columbus hotel on Thursday morning after officers recovered a handgun, drugs, and a large amount of currency from their hotel room.

At approximately 8 a.m., CPD officers were sent to a hotel in the 2400 block of Jonathan Moore Pike in regards to a couple acting suspiciously, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers were advised that a man, later identified as 18-year-old Keegan Brooks of 801 Garden Ave., Seymour, was observed displaying a handgun and a large amount of currency.

The officers made contact with Brooks and Stefany J. Thomas, 18, of 606-R Pardieck Ave., Seymour who were inside a hotel room, Harris said. Officers noted that both Brooks and Thomas appeared to be under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. The officers later obtained a search warrant for the room and located over a pound of marijuana, approximately 90 oxycodone pills, drug paraphernalia including scales and packaging material, a .380-caliber handgun and more than $5,000 in cash, Harris said.

Brooks and Thomas were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded to the custody of the jail staff.

While at the jail, officers located additional oxycodone pills that Thomas had reportedly concealed in her clothing, Harris said.

Preliminary charges are:

  • Brooks: Dealing in marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun without a license, and maintaining a common nuisance.
  • Thomas: Dealing in marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, trafficking with an inmate.

Both remain incarcerated at the jail without bond on a 48 hour hold, jail officials said. Brooks had a bond set at $32,500 and Thomas’ bond was set at $41,000, according to jail records.

The local Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team assisted with this ongoing investigation, Harris said.
