Burnett sworn in as new Columbus firefighter

The Columbus Fire Department has hired firefighter Samuel Burnett as the newest member of the department. Burnett was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting at City Hall.

Burnett, 31, is a Columbus native and a 2009 graduate of Columbus East High School. Burnett is a 2013 graduate of Indiana University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is a state-certified basic emergency medical technician as well as firefighter I & II certified.

Burnett was employed with the city Clerk/Treasurer’s Office before his appointment to the Fire Department. Burnett will begin a CFD orientation program that will conclude with a station and shift assignment.
