Letter: Thank Biden, Democrats for Indiana economic boom

Indiana is set to have an economic boom in the coming years. More than $500 million will be used to deploy regional investments that will not only create jobs but will create a better future for our communities. But, it gets even better. Construction projects — including for broadband, roads and bridges, and water infrastructure — will deliver livable-wage jobs for workers and bring Hoosiers into the 21 century.

There’s a lot to offer for our state and our families. And for that, I ask you to thank President Joe Biden and a Democrat for delivering this brighter future for you.

You don’t have to like us, and I’m sure many of you have never voted for us, but Democrats have been the responsible adults in the room who’ve delivered when it mattered most, whether you’re willing to admit it out loud or not.

Democrats delivered on the American Rescue Plan, and it provided Indiana $500 million and fully funded Governor Eric Holcomb’s economic development program known as READI. Democrats provided more than $350 million to expand high-speed internet access in every corner of the Hoosier State. And because of Democrats, more than $680 million and $781 million will be used to repair roads and bridges (like Interstate I-69) and revitalize Indiana’s water infrastructure system.

Where were folks like Gov. Eric Holcomb, Sen. Todd Young, Rep. Greg Pence and Rep. Trey Hollingsworth? They were all publicly against these economic opportunities. The entire Indiana Republican Party was opposed to the American Rescue Plan and The Jobs Act, meaning they said “no” to the economic boom they’re trying to take credit for.

Like I said, many who read this will probably never support Democrats, but Indiana’s economic success is largely because of folks like Joe Biden and Indiana Democrats. So make sure to thank a Democrat the next time you see them.
