North wins Madison invite

MADISON — Columbus North went 4-0 Saturday to capture the title at the Madison Invitational.

The Bull Dogs beat Scottsburg 41-30, Southport 45-24, Madison 52-24 and Switzerland County 54-12. North improved to 12-5 and clinched a winning season.

“The kids just keep getting better every week,” North coach Matt Joyce said. “It’s the first time we’ve had a winning record in at least eight years, so it’s a big deal for us.”

Justice Thornton (126 pounds), Keller DeSpain (170) and Jared Slocum (182) all went 4-0 for the Bull Dogs. Jason Shuey (132) and Liam Phillips (152) each went 3-1.

Panthers take second

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County went 4-1 to finish second in its Super Duals. The Panthers beat New Castle 54-24, lost to Mt. Vernon 55-24 and beat West Washington 60-19, Decatur Central 36-31 and Greenwood 59-22.

Teagan Trotter (170) went 5-0 for Jennings. Evan Sochacki (138) and R.J. Barberis (145) and Gage Gasper (220) all went 4-1. Cayden Bliton (113), Alexis Giltner (126), Bryce Barnes (152), Colton Ross (182), Vincent Pittman (195) and Peyton Hayden (285) all went 3-2.

Meier wins diving invite

Gabbie Meier

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus East sophomore Gabbie Meier scored a 380.05 to break her own school record and win the Bloomington North Diving Invitational for the second consecutive year.

Columbus North’s Ella Gray Partin finished seventh with 266.25, while Lydia Putney took ninth (247.75), Emily Martin 10th (238.70), Hailey Hardin 13th (227.15) and Haley Potter 16th (203.80). East’s Grace Lykins was 12th (233.05) and Dyana Foster 16th (206.85).

North’s Cole Wheeler finished third in the boys competition with a 380.55, while Roberto Cantu took 10th (195.90) and Carson Shoop 13th (159.90). East’s Gavin Day was seventh (252.55).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Crusaders down Bulldogs

Columbus Christian shot 40 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent overall from the field in a 70-58 Southern Roads Conference win against Cannelton.

Gabe Ridder led the Crusaders (10-7, 4-1) with 20 points. Peyton Rehlander scored 15, Cam Pritchard had 12 and Cody Kiefer added nine.

Lancers win in 2 OTs

CAMPBELLSBURG — Class A No. 2 Edinburgh needed two overtimes to fend off West Washington 46-45.

Travis Jones scored on a putback at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. After both teams scored two points in the first OT, the Lancers (11-0) outscored the Senators 2-1 in the second extra period.

Caleb Dewey led Edinburgh with 15 points. Landen Burton scored 12, Jones had 10 and Riley Palmeter added nine.

Trojans top Panthers

GREENWOOD — Center Grove jumped out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter and went on to hand Jennings County a 71-48 loss.

Cole Sigler led the Panthers with (8-3) with 12 points. Keegan Manowitz scored 10, and Carson McNulty added eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jets fall to Cougars

GREENFIELD — Greenfield-Central built a 38-26 halftime lead, then pulled away with a 13-3 third-quarter spurt and went on to hand the Jets a 58-39 defeat.

Adrianna Musillami led the Jets (8-8) with 13 points. Madelyn Poe added 11.

Columbus Christian falls

Columbus Christian led 9-8 after one quarter, but Cannelton rallied for a 54-43 victory.

Sarah Lorimor and Eva Blair each scored 13 points to lead the Crusaders (7-6). Paige Harden added 11.

Senators stop Lancers

CAMPBELLSBURG — Edinburgh and West Washington were tied 27-27 after three quarters, but the Senators pulled out a 44-40 win.

Gracie Crawhorn led the Lancers (8-7) with 15 points.

Braves beat Eagles

NASHVILLE — Indian Creek jumped out to a 19-2 lead after one quarter and went on to hand Brown County a 56-26 WIC defeat.

Lexie Austin led the Eagles (3-13, 3-5) with 13 points.
