Betty J. Baugher

Betty Jane Baugher, 99, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at her home.

Betty was born October 24, 1922 in Columbus, Indiana to parents Martin John and Harriett Mae Nentrup. Growing up in Columbus, she enjoyed spending time with her father in his grocery store and going to Zaharakos with friends.

Betty married Leslie Russel Baugher in Columbus in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1984. She worked as an Inspector at local factories during World War II. Following the war, she attended Indiana Business College and then worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company.

Betty was a lifetime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was active in several church clubs throughout her life. She served many years on the local election board and was a member of the Tabitha Guild, Concordia Guild, and a Charter Member of the Silver Scripts Writing Club. She enjoyed oil painting, writing short stories and poetry, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Betty’s family was the light of her life. She wholeheartedly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and prayed for them daily. She did her best to instill in them her faith in the word of God and her love for Jesus Christ.

Betty is survived by her children, Jim (Karen Rae) Baugher, Jon (Janet) Baugher, Bevererly (Gary) Campbell, Darrell (Karen Rose) Baugher, Steve Baugher, and Phillip (Estelle) Baugher; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was in death by her parents; her husband; her son, David Baugher; granddaughter, Jessica Hope Baugher; and grandson, Avery Benjiman Baugher.

A Funeral Service for Betty will be held Saturday, December 15 at 11 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. She will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery. Friends may gather for visitation from 9:30 to the time of service on Saturday. Memorial Donations in her name can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
