Club Olympia, Donner swim in Super Bowl Splash

Thirty-four Club Olympia athletes competed in the Super Bowl Splash hosted by the Center

Grove Aquatic Club last weekend at the new Center Grove High School Aquatic Center. This was a non-point scoring meet with prelims and finals events.

Club Olympia added eight new Divisional time standard cuts to its previous total of 189. Currently, six swimmers have a total of 47 Senior State cuts, and seven swimmers have a total of 34 Age Group State cuts. Along with 78 personal-best times, Club Olympia swimmers captured 57 fop-five event finishes, which included wins in nine events. Event winners included Emily Meek, Vivan Shah, Tony Machavariani, Maggie Johnson and Connelly Furnish.

Meek won the 8-and-under 25 butterfly and 50 breaststroke and scored top-five finishes in the 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke.

Shah won the 25 backstroke and 50 backstroke and placed second in the 25 freestyle, 25 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 50 breaststroke.

Aahan Gupta had eight top-10 finishes, including third in the 25 butterfly and 50 freestyle, fourth in the 25 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke and fifth in the 25 freestyle.

Aarush Datar, Sarthak Deshmukh, Cali Gray, Myra Jaryal and Sharvi Shah combined for 16 top-10 finishes in 8U events. Also swimming in the 8U division were Aahana Ingole, Harini Pinna and Bella Zhang.

Machavariani won the 9-10 boys 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley, and finished second in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, and 100 backstroke.

Shreyan Kulkarni took third in the 200 freestyle and 100 IM, fourth in the 100 butterfly, and fifth in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 200 IM and placed in the top 10 in two additional events.

Aashka Shah finished fifth in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM and claimed three additional top-10 finishes. Xavier Zhang claimed two top 10 finishes while

competing only on one day. Josie Hudson obtained another divisional cut, this time in the 50 breaststroke, bringing her to three events so far in her first season with the team. Other 9-10 year old Club Olympia swimmers competing were Arjun Agarkar, Adir Joshi, Shourya Malviya, Dariel Pinella and Daxton Wolf.

Furnish, competing in the 11-12 division, won the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke and placed second in the 200 freestyle behind Emily Wolf of Fishers, who broke the 39-year-old state record in that event. Furnish also was third in the 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 IM and fourth in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Badve and Nandini Kondahare combined to make five finals with five top-20 finishes total. Also swimming in the 11-12 division were Vidita Keskar, Lovely Panda, Vaishnavi Pinna and Aksh Ranjan.

In the 13-and-over age group, Maggie Johnson, Cole Ehara and Zoie Chandelkar qualified for the finals in all of their events. Johnson took first in the 200 butterfly; third in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 IM; fourth in the 100 butterfly; sixth in the 100 breaststroke; seventh in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 200 backstroke.

Ehara claimed second in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, third in the 200 butterfly, fourth in the 1650 freestyle and 400 IM, fifth in the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 200 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 freestyle.

Chandelkar placed seventh in the 200 butterfly, ninth in the 400 IM and 11th in the 200 breaststroke, with four other top-20 finishes.

Donner competes

Donner Swim Club was represented by 29 swimmers in the Super Bowl Splash.

Ainsley Sherlock achieved state cuts in the 13-14 girls 200 breaststroke, and Mridula Muthukumaram made the state cut in the 11-12 girls 100 butterfly.

In the 13-and-over girls division, Nitya Garg placed 14 the in 500 freestyle, 19th in the 100 butterfly and 20th in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM placing 20th. Garg qualified for divisionals in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 IM.

Abby Proffitt placed 17th in the 200 backstroke and 200 IM, 18th in the 200 freestyle and 19th and 17th in the 100 backstroke.

Ainsley Sherlock placed third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, 10th in the 200 IM, 11th in the 200 freestyle, 13th in the 100 butterfly and 17th in the 100 freestyle.

Cora Tregoning finished 17th in the 200 breaststroke.

In the 13 and over boys division, Aarush Mahato placed 10th in the 200 freestyle, 12th in the 200 IM, 13th in the 200 butterfly, 14th in the 100 butterfly, 19th in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and 20th in the 500 freestyle.

For 11-12 girls, Muthukumaran finished fourth in the 50 backstroke, fifth in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle, sixth in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly and seventh in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 200 IM.

For 11-12 boys, Levi Bense placed 18th in the 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle. Garrett Perfetto was 17th in the 100 breaststroke.

In the 10U girls division, Camila Mejia Murguia and Rebecca Murguia qualified for divisionals in all four strokes at the 50 and 100 distance.

Camili Mejia Murguia finished fifth in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly, sixth in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, eighth in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke, 10th in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 50 backstroke.

Rebecca Murguia placed sixth in the 50 breaststroke, eighth in the 100 breaststroke, ninth in the 100 butterfly, 10th in the 50 freestyle, 15th in the 50 butterfly and 16th in the 100 freestyle.

In the 10U boys, Jonathan Callaway achieved divisional times in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Reyansh Nighojkar achieved a divisional cut in the 100 breaststroke.

Callaway finished seventh in the 50 breaststroke; eighth in the 100 breaststroke; 10th in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly; 16th in the 50 backstroke and 17th in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Lincoln Crawford placed 10th in the 100 butterfly. Nighojkar won the 50 butterfly and took 10th in the 50 breaststroke, 13th in the 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke and 19th in the 100 backstroke.

For 10U girls, Shaivi Nighojkar finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke.

In 8U girls, Ella Bringman placed first in the 50 butterfly, third in the 50 freestyle and 10th in 50 breaststroke. Millicent Fry finished third in the 25 breaststroke, fourth in the 25 butterfly, fifth in the 50 backstroke, sixth in the 50 butterfly and seventh in the 50 freestyle.

For 8U boys, Nathan Perfetto placed third in the 25 breaststroke, eighth in the 25 butterfly, ninth in the 25 freestyle, 10th in the 50 freestyle and 18th in the 25 backstroke.

HOCKEY

Icemen go 2-2

The Columbus Icemen beat South Stars White 7-1, fell to Bloomington 4-2, beat Evansville White 8-2 and lost to Evansville Purple 2-0. Alex Clark netted four goals and three assists, John Ferguson recorded three goals and four assists; Calijah Kenney and Jadan Pagan each had two goals and two assists; Evan Federle notched one goal and three assists; John Merrit and Will Kushner each had one goal and one assist; Barrett Mudd, Dane Weinzapfel and Samuel McGhehey all scored one goal and Cole Vreeland added one assist. Ben Blanz and Jake McMullen were each in net two games.

Columbus Flames 14U A team swept Cincinnati Swords 4-0 and 6-1. Wyatt Warner scored four goals; Eduardo Aranda netted two goals and one assist; Westin Davis and Carson King each had one goal and one assist; Lance Kitterman and Will Jamerson each scored one goal; River Degner had two assists and Kaitlyn Netser, Drew Weed, Leif Nelson and Hayden Johnson all added one assist. Jackson Wheatley was in net.

Columbus Flames 14U B team blanked Dayton Stealth 9-0 with Lane Barringer in net and lost 7-4 with Sydney Morrow in net. Sawyer Patterson netted four goals and three assists; Ashton Nguyen recorded three goals and three assists; Bryce McDonald scored three goals; Jonah Young had two goals and three assists; Tyler Hubler notched one goal and one assist; Leah Doig had 2 assists and Blake Avery, Philip Mattern and Griffin Mudd all added one assist.

Columbus Flames 12U A played in a tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee, and fell to the NC Golden Bears 6-1, Nashville Jr Predators 11-1 and Atlanta Center Ice 4-0 and 0-8-0. Simon Barnes netted one goal and one assist; Ryan McGhehey scored one goal and Brooks Larsh, Henry Schloemer and Zane Lynch all had one assist. Canyon Long saved 101 of 128 shot for 78%

Columbus Flames 12U B lost to Jr Fuel Red and lost 5-1 and 5-2, and beat Cincy Swords 1-0 and 4-3. Ayden Richardson netted four goals and one assist; Bryson Moore scored two goals; Colby Payne had 1 goal and 1 assist; Dana Thomas scored one goal, Lilli Donica notched two assists and Uriah Oliphant, Preston Bell, Jonah Broderick and Cooper Ross all added one assist. Gabe Marsh was in net all weekend.

Columbus Flames 10U A swept Cincy Swords 8-1 and won 9-4. Maddox Coy netted six goals and two assists, Bentley Hampton recorded four goals and one assist, Thomas King notched three goals and three assists, Max Perez had one goal and two assists, Nolan Sparkman and Carter Harris each tallied one goal and one assist, Robby Orgass scored one goal and Daniel Wallace added one assist. Cayden Long saved 30 of 35 shots for 85%.

BROOMBALL

Hansons keep lead

Hansons remained in first place in the Columbus Broomall League with a 7-0 shoutout of Jennings County BC (1-7-2). Matt Psota scored three goals for Hansons (8-1-1), while Max Warr had two and Matt Street and Rahul Bhardwaj each added one.

Monsters of Rock (6-2-2) moved into second place with a 6-1 win against Toyota Tsunamis (2-7-1).Tyler Rash netted three goals, while Ryan Ingalls had two and Katelyn Perera added one for Mosters. Clayton McNealy scored for Tsunamis.

CCA (3-5-2) edged Our Name Is Earl (6-4) 1-0. Sam Hayes netted the goal for CCA.

BASKETBALL

Panthers sweep Spartans

Jennings County Middle School’s boys White teams swept Northside, winning the eighth-grade game 49-44 and the seventh-grade game 44-21.

Parker Elmore led the Panther eighth-graders (13-1) with 20 points. Cash Millspaugh added 17.

Mikey Hall scored 20 points to lead the Jennings seventh-graders (5-6). Cooper Lane added 12.
